MSPA Home 1999 MANITOBA PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
September 28, 1999: The 1999 Manitoba Provincial Championships were held September 25 & 26 in Gimli. The competitors consisted of 3-way formation skydiving, team accuracy, individual accuracy, and although the weather was exceptional (on Saturday) no one showed up to do style (not even the Thielmanns).
The weather was beautiful, the first jump course was small, only three teams competing and we still couldn't finish two rounds by sunset on Saturday. It was a slow start in the morning waiting for everyone to arrive and get organized, returned students seemed to come out of the woodwork (Brian Forbes dispatched 17 alone), it looked like a real DZ.
The three teams competing were Team Rage (Kevin Spurrill, Heather Abrahams, Rick Cole), Team 2 1/2 (Rob Hutchinson, John Laurie, Ken Gowler), Team F.U. (Gerry Gay, Candace Meyers, Ron Olson).
Team Rage and team F.U. completed the first two rounds, but team 2 1/2 still needed to. Since the weather didn't cooperate on Sunday we are hoping to finish the rest of two and round three the following weekend October 2nd and 3rd.
Our chief judge for these championship is Geri Cole. We appreciate all of her hard work and eagerly await her posting the final scores. A special thanks as well to our camera flyers Darryl Logan and Gerry Gay.
The medal ceremonies will be at the year end party October 23rd. Good luck to all, will see you on the podium!

3 October 1999: The provincials are finally done - after a week's break and another two days of struggling through harsh Manitoba weather! The teams had managed to do all the missing rounds and rejumps. There was even some time for 2 rounds of style and accuracy by Andrew Thielmann, Katherine Thielmann and April Penner.

A lot of thanks to everyone who was either competing or participating in air and ground support of the event. A special word is about the great job done by cameramen Gerry Gay (who was also a member of a wining team) and Darryl Logan.
